Sweet Home St. Louis
In August 2018, the Honey Beer Summit once again graced the Gateway to the West. This was the fifth time St. Louis hosted this gathering of brewers from around the United States. It was a familiar affair, working with many host breweries that we’ve worked with for years.
What was not familiar was a completely new group of 32 brewers that attended this year’s Summit to learn about honey bees and how to brew better beer using honey. It was another great event, and here are three things that stood out.
The St. Louis Brewing Community
Urban Chestnut Brewing hosted our first ever Honey Beer Summit, and they have welcomed us back every year since. For the third consecutive year, we’ve also had the pleasure to work with Perennial Artisan Ales, who besides making unbelievable beer, also serves up an amazing meal for all of our attendees on Tuesday night. For the second year in a row, we closed out our event with a pour of La Ruche at Side Project Brewery. This year’s batch used Alfalfa honey and was one of the best honey beers we’ve tasted all year.
Eclectic Mix of Breweries
We always attract a great mix of breweries from around the country, but this year’s attendee list seemed especially eclectic. Just check out these breweries! Friendship Brewing, Perennial Artisan Ales, Oozlefinch Craft Brewery, Casa Agria Specialty Ales, Stonehome Brewing, West O Beer, Forbidden Root, Weldwerks, Civil Life, Central State Brewing, Narrow Gauge Brewing, Monday Night Brewing, Urban Chestnut Brewing, Cascade Brewing, Fifth Frame Brewing, Forest & Main, Funkwerks, Holy Mountain, Branch & Bone Artisan Ales, Perrin Brewing Company, Honest Weight Artisan Beer, Creature Comforts and Gizmo Brew Works!
Conversations and Collaborations
This year’s group of brewers was one of the most engaged we’ve ever had, sharing their experiences with honey and moving forward the science and art of brewing with this all natural ingredient. From the tasting of honey to the sampling of honey beers, great discussions took place about honey’s role in beer.
Interested in attending the Honey Beer Summit?
We keep this event small to give each brewer the opportunity to maximize their time learning about honey and collaborating with their fellow brewers. Please fill out the form if you would like to be considered for the Honey Beer Summit.
